Dr. Akingbola is currently the Chief Executive of the Intercontinental Bank Group; President/Chairman of Council, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria; Chairman, Intercontinental Securities Limited, Chairman, Associated Discount House Limited, Chairman, Tropics Finance Limited and Director, Intercontinental Bank, UK & Ghana and a host of other companies. He has a strong pedigree of over 35 years of continuous banking experience. He began his career with Barclays Bank (Union Bank) in 1971. In February, 1989 he co-founded Nigerian Intercontinental Merchant Bank Limited now Intercontinental Bank Plc and was pioneer Managing Director/CEO. He has an MBA and has participated in courses in several world acclaimed business schools Harvard Business School, IMD, INSEAD and Lagos Business School. He has served as President, Lagos Business School Alumni Association, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN). Dr. Akingbola has been conferred with several awards including Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) - a national award by President Olusegun Obasanjo in recognition of his monumental contributions to the development of the Nigerian economy. And the Kwame Nkrumah Award as a CEO of one of the leading financial institutions in Africa and the Zik's Leadership Award. In 2004, he was elected to represent West Africa on the Executive Board of the African Bankers' Forum, an arm of AFREXIMBANK, which seeks to integrate private sector banking institutions in Africa for Continental Business Finance. AFREXIMBANK and ADB are the only two financial institutions owned by all African Governments. He is a Fellow of Institute of Bankers (FCIB) London; Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (FCIS) and; Member, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
